Rules For Fun And Safe Shooting

Here are some basic safety rules we at The Gun Slinger follow that have always kept us safe while having fun.
- When handling any firearm, loaded or unloaded, ALWAYS point the barrel in a safe direction (away from anything living or objects you do not wish to put a hole in).
- Always treat every firearm like it IS loaded.
- Be aware of what is around and behind your target.
- Watch for anything that could suddenly move into your line of fire such as dogs or other shooters/hunters.
- If there is anything that could suddenly move into your line of fire, DO NOT FIRE!!
- Do not shoot at hard objects that the bullet could ricochet off of and come back at you or other shooters.
- When handing a firearm to another, always open the action and show that the chamber is empty. When taking a firearm from someone else, they should show you that its empty, but if they dont, immidiately check, with the barrel pointed in a safe direction.
- Only fire ammo in good condition, through firearms in good condition.
- Prior to you or other shooters going down range, clear your firearm, open the action, put the safety on, and remove mags.
- DO NOT HANDLE FIREARMS when others are down range.
- It is best to keep all firearms out of the reach of children. Teach them about safe handling and the responsibility of being a law abiding gun owner.
- The best way to keep firearms out of the reach of children or unwanted “guests” (thieves) is to lock them up in a good gun safe/cabinet.
- When transporting your firearms, its best to keep the guns and ammo separate. For example, keep guns (unloaded of course) in the cab and ammo in your tool box or trunk. This is the most acceptable way in most states that I know of.
